Certainly, there are singles and couples around, but most of the housing stock and amenities are designed for families. They also serve the best sushi in Brooklyn, and the prices are pretty reasonable (at least for quality sushi). There is also a strong artist/creative population (although they complain that the lawyers and bankers have started to move in). Sushi Katsuei is a pretty nondescript-looking sushi restaurant in Park Slope - white walls, carpeted floor, plain wood tables. The other great thing for families is that there really is a community here - both my dentist and pediatrician have kids at the same school as mine. Real estate is competitive here, especially for buyers, because there is fairly low turnover in houses and apartments. Although Park Slope is by no means cheap, it is a much better value for the money than neighborhoods like Brooklyn Heights or Cobble Hill, and significantly more affordable than just about anywhere in Manhattan. Many people have cars and you can street park relatively easily. For commuters to Manhattan, there's transit everywhere, and you can get just about anywhere in 20-45 minutes. It's also beautiful: quiet, tree lined streets, well-maintained Brownstones and gardens in good order. And as our Park Slope project progresses, we look forward to reaching out to neighbors and local community non-profits to support the hiring of an outstanding team for our customers at Lidl Park Slope.Park Slope has everything that families need: great schools, a world-class public park, shops and restaurants (many run by celebrity chefs). “Great people make the Lidl experience possible every day. “We’re thrilled to be planting our roots in Park Slope and are excited to introduce our new neighbors to Lidl’s simple, affordable and highly-awarded approach to grocery,” said Or Raitses, senior director of real estate for Lidl in New York. Key Food closed its doors last year to make way for a mixed-use development with 184 apartments, a parking garage and supermarket. And with Lidl, set to open in 2024, dozens of jobs will be brought back to the area. The 38 meat department workers from seven Key Foods locations in Park Slope, Sunset Park, Greenpoint, New Urecht and three spots in Long Island have been kept from working since April 6 as. “In 2016, the, working with my predecessor, initiated discussions with the project developers to ensure that a full-sized, affordable, high quality community supermarket replaced the Key Food.” “The selection of Lidl is a win for our community that would not have been possible without the advocacy and input of the Community Stakeholder Group,” stated Council Member Shaman Hanif. And community leaders are excited as this chain will fill the void of having a local affordable grocer. The chain signed a lease with developers William Macklowe Company and Senlac Ridge Partners for its first Brooklyn outpost at 120 Fifth Avenue. Scheduled to arrive in Park Slope in 2024, Lidl plans to become a center of a mixed-used development in place of the former Key Food on Fifth Avenue. The trend of converting the city’s grocery stores into residential developments continues and the latest store to fall victim is a Key Food at 120 Fifth Avenue in Park Slope. The budget-friendly grocery chain Lidl has plans to expand into Brooklyn, reports The Brooklyn Paper.
